A 'Titanic' Moment in Venice
Dear friends,
Venice has to be one of the best places in the world to photograph dogs - no cars for starters! And always with a camera ready of course.
However, on this day I was leaving Venice and my camera was packed in my suitcase - it's hard to manage a suitcase, a shoulder bag AND a big camera. I'm on the vaporetto, en route to Venezia Santa Lucia railway station to catch the train home to France. I leaned out of the vaporetto and looking back saw one of the traditional rowing boats of Venice in the distance with three rowers and a small dog on the bow - and no camera ready! I have never moved so fast! The vaporetto was crowded but somehow I managed to get the suitcase open, grab the camera, turn it on and focus just in time to capture this scene before it disappeared ahead of us and around a bend in the Grand Canal.
How dogs in Venice keep their balance on a boat is miraculous but many Venetian dogs travel on boats, go to work with their humans, so they are used to it. Seems to me this little Boston Terrier is doing a rather good impersonation of that iconic 'Titanic' moment...
If you'd love to have this print of Venice on your walls or perhaps give as a gift to a friend, do take a look at my Fine Art Print Shop. You'll find a selection of prints of everyday life with dogs in Venice as well as other parts of Italy, France and Monaco.

Hello everyone – it seems I can’t reply individually to everyone on this blog interface – seems I need to find an App that allows this. Thanks so much for all the lovely comments. Amanda – thanks so much for mentioning the incorrect link. Now corrected. And Richard, yes it is a Boston terrier (the French bulldogs are heavier, stockier, not so fine boned) but of course they have a similar look. Thanks everyone. xxx

Hi Jilly – just tried the link to your fine art shop but did not get it to function. Might be worth checking to see if the link has failed.

Fabulous Jilly,
Certainly a lot more agile than me I would have completely missed the moment. xxx

Love this story, one that is all too familiar when travelling but I’m so glad you had enough time to extract the camera from your suitcase! It’s a beautiful image!

looks more like a bulldog Francais Gilly. They are I believe very popular in Italy. Like your new website.
